Honest Wood cutter story

Honest Wood cutter

Once upon a time, there was a poor but honest woodcutter who lived in a small village. Every day, he went to the forest to cut wood and sell it in the market to earn a living. One day, while chopping a tree near a river, his axe slipped from his hand and fell into the deep water.

The woodcutter was very upset because he could not afford to buy a new axe. Suddenly, a fairy appeared from the river and asked him why he was sad. The woodcutter explained his problem honestly. The fairy dived into the river and brought out a golden axe.

“Is this your axe?” she asked.

The woodcutter said, “No, that is not mine.” Then she brought out a silver axe.

“Is this your axe?” she asked again.

“No, that is not mine either,” replied the woodcutter.

Finally, she brought out his old, rusty iron axe.

“Yes, this is my axe,” he said honestly.

Pleased with his honesty, the fairy gave him all three axes as a reward. The woodcutter returned home happily, richer but still honest and hardworking.
