Bayazid’s Devotion to His Mother
Bayazid Bastami was a great Sufi saint known for his deep spirituality and love for God. But among all his spiritual practices, there was one thing he held above all — his devotion and respect for his mother.
Bayazid’s mother loved him dearly and often asked for his help with simple tasks. Even though Bayazid was busy with his prayers and teaching, he always made time for her. He believed that serving and respecting his mother was part of his spiritual journey.
One day, Bayazid was deeply engaged in his worship when his mother called him several times, asking for some help. But caught up in his spiritual state, he did not respond immediately. When he finally realized her repeated requests, he felt great sorrow for neglecting her.
Without hesitation, Bayazid stopped his worship and rushed to fulfill her wishes. He told his disciples that no spiritual practice could compare to the reward of serving one’s parents with love and patience.
Bayazid’s life is a beautiful example that true devotion to God includes kindness and care for one’s parents, especially mothers. He taught that honoring parents is a noble act that brings blessings and draws one closer to divine love.
